Elvis Presley, the “King of Rock and Roll,” would’ve been 90 years old today. Tragically, Presley died on August 16, 1977 at the age of 42, leaving the world too soon when he had so much more to offer.

Presley is on of music’s greatest icons, evident in his enduring legacy nearly 50 years after his death. He changed the way people perceived musicians, becoming arguably the world’s first true “rockstar.” He’s had a lasting impact pop culture, which was seemingly kicked off by his second appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1956, as tens of millions of Americans tuned in to CBS to see the young star’s gyrating hips as he performed Hound Dog.
